about
Lyric's latest single, 'outdated', is a war cry for the self-conscious and self-aware. The track’s edgy rock sounds pay homage to the weight Lyric has felt when struggling with her comparison to those around her, and has morphed into a rallying call for those grappling with similar emotions of self-doubt. She contrasts full choruses with minimal verses, pairing a slinky bassline with a feverish vocal delivery, and demonstrating her ability to have impressive, and intentional, sonic control.
lyrics
Phone screen, glowing
Haven't left the house in about a week
Started biting my nails out of spite
Nineteen came a little fast
How have all my friends got it figured out
While I'm anxious, uptight
And hate every word I write
Save me, it's draining
All this weight of expectations
My brain is dissipated
It's a little complicated
Pixel perfect in the phone screen
Pretty girls, why can't that be me
Just fake it, till you make it
No one wants to be outdated
Eternally stressed out
Wouldn't be surprised if my hair fell out
Say I'm biding my time
But it's passing me by
It's poker, watch me draw my cards
And everybody else will get a royal flush
Fold, don't be bold
Whoever made luck is a liar
Save me, it's draining
All this weight of expectations
My brain is dissipated
It's a little complicated
Pixel perfect in the phone screen
Pretty girls, why can't that be me
Just fake it, till you make it
No one wants to be outdated
Boyfriends, college degrees
Everyone's got things
Everyone but me
Scrolling through other's perfect lives
And suddenly it feels like I'm a little behind
Cause they've got city flats
Fancy jobs and all
If it's chess, they're kings
I'm just a pawn
I'm so sick of wanting more
What did I sign up for
Save me, it's draining
All this weight of expectations
My brain is dissipated
It's a little complicated
Pixel perfect in the phone screen
Pretty girls, why can't that be me
Just fake it, till you make it
No one wants to be outdated
Boyfriends, college degrees
Everyone's got things
Everyone but me
Scrolling through other's perfect lives
And suddenly it feels like I'm a little behind
Cause they've got city flats
Fancy jobs and all
If it's chess, they're kings
I'm just a pawn
I'm so sick of wanting more
What did I sign up for
Phone screen, glowing
Haven't left the house in about a week
